The Bible is full of mysteries. This is especially true when it comes to the end of the age. But did you ever wonder why? Why did God hide so many things? Jesus told us they were hidden that they should come to light. In other words God wants to reveal them and will reveal them to certain people. God hides a thing that it may be found. “What’s the point of that,” you ask? Well, it’s not about the hidden things themselves but about those who want to know. In other words, God wants to reveal them, but only to those who want Him. He does not throw His pearls before swine or reveal His secrets to those who don’t have His interests at heart. He wants us to want Him and He wants us to want to know His mysteries. That’s why He gives us so many signs so that we will search them out. Our God is the revealer of mysteries.
Jesus told His followers that they had been given the keys of the kingdom. He also told them that they had been granted the knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom that were hidden from the rest. It was the Father’s pleasure, He said, to hide things from the wise and intelligent and reveal them to babes. This implies that not all believers have the mysteries revealed to them, but only those who humble themselves and line up with his will. This is clear from Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 13. Many hear the message but can’t comprehend because their heart is dull.
Mystery Stewards
This does not mean that God reveals everything to believers. Some things He still hides for another season. Timing matters as well. There are times when God reveals things and when He hides them. Daniel was shown many things that he did not understand because they were for the future – for our day. God is now revealing them to those who love Him and are fitting into His plan. But He is still hiding them from those who have their own agenda, be they believers or not. Paul said that the apostles were stewards of the mysteries of the kingdom. Indeed, all the Bible authors were stewards of these mysteries as they carefully wrote them down and passed them on. They opened up what was revealed to them and passed it on to us who live at the End-Time. Surely this compels us to seek it out. If God wants to reveal mysteries, how can we not want to know them? We too must be good stewards of these things. But to be a steward of the mysteries does not mean that one keeps them hidden. On the contrary, we are to search them out and reveal them as the Father intends and keep them from being twisted or stolen by others. We are to unfold them to God’s people as they are unfolded to us by the Holy Spirit. He promised to teach us all things and disclose to us what is to come. Therefore, if we are good stewards and receiving from the Holy Spirit, we should be unravelling the mysteries concerning the end of the age.
The Lost Keys
All of the mysteries of the end of the age are contained in the Bible. It is the treasure map. The first century church had the keys to unlock these mysteries, but a century and a half later they were lost. Believers stumbled over the Gentile stumbling stone and lost the keys. Consequently, they remained lost for nearly two thousand years. Though much has been restored to the church, the End-Time scenario remains shrouded in confusion. Some things have come into focus, yet ignorance prevails. This is partly because of indifference and partly because of frustration. Those who have attempted to unveil the secrets of the End-Times without the lost keys have contributed to this. We commend them for their heart to unfold these truths to God’s people, but without the keys, they have only created more mysteries. They only had pieces of the map. Besides this, many false treasure hunters have gone out to throw us off course. Yet, there are a multitude of signs and signals as to where the treasure is hidden. But one has to know how to interpret them. Some have concluded that there are no mysteries at all to be unfolded or treasures to find and that they disappeared long ago. Others say they are there but cannot be discovered until Christ comes. This they say is the wise and intelligent conclusion.
But didn’t the Lord say He would hide from the wise and intelligent and disclose to His trusting children what is to come? The Lord’s promise is not yes and no – it is yes in Him. Of course it is! Therefore the mysteries regarding the End-Time are for the people of the End-Time to whom they were given. The treasure chambers of End-Time revelation are full of riches but they can only be opened by the lost keys. Where then are those keys? Surely they can clear up the myths and dispel the rumors? Surely they will open the granaries of wisdom and feed the starving souls for whom they were stored? Could it be that these keys are now available to the church? What if I told you they have been there all along but we did not have eyes to see? But now as our hearts are being healed and our worldview is lining up with His, they are in our hands again. “Oh come on,” some of you are saying. “Is this for real?” I understand your scepticism. Trust me, I’ve been there. But if I’m right and the mystery vaults open up, what will you say? Either they are real or they are not. Either they will work or they will not. Come with me through the secret passageways and watch as we open the forgotten chambers. Let us believe the words of the Lord, who promised that he who seeks will find and to him who knocks, the door will be opened!
